CELPIP is The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program Test for English language assessment.
The CELPIP evaluates candidates English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills and is officially designated for permanent residence applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and is also accepted for professional designations.The CELPIP test only includes Canadian topics about everyday life.The test provides a valid and reliable measurement of a test taker’s English abilities in a variety of everyday situations, such as communicating with co-workers and superiors in the workplace, interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials.
There are two versions of the CELPIP Test:
• The CELPIP-General Test: The CELPIP-General Test evaluates listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, and is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as proof of English language proficiency for permanent residency in Canada. CELPIP-General Test also accepted by the Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) and Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).
• The CELPIP-General LS Test: The CELPIP-General LS Test evaluates listening and speaking skills, and is accepted by IRCC as proof of English language proficiency for Canadian citizenship, and is also accepted for professional designations.
Test Format:
• CELPIP is a computer based test.
• The test includes a spell-check, personal timer and word counter.
• Everyday situations Vocabulary is taken in the test.
• The test is conducted in easy-to-understand even to no Everyday situations Vocabulary is taken in the test.n native speakers in “North American accent” English.
• Online results are available in 8 days from date of test.
CELPIP Syllabus:
The CELPIP-General test comprises of four sections Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Whereas, the CELPIP-General LS test includes Listening and Speaking.
Listening: Listening section contains 6 parts which tests candidate’s listening skills. Listening section syllabus includes Question types,Introduction to test-taking strategies,Introduction to vocabulary-building, Establishing context, Note-taking strategies: Location and time, Note-taking strategies: Main ideas and supporting details,Using abbreviations for note-taking Synonyms Note-taking to record facts, Visual clues, Relevant vs. irrelevant information, Recognizing facts and opinions Differentiating between summaries and paraphrases ,Identifying pros and cons.
Reading Section: Reading section contains 4 parts which test candidates comprehensive skills. Reading section syllabus includes Skimming and scanning, Synonym-matching pair work activity, Timed reading, Understanding coherence and applying logic, Locating specific information, Recognizing a writer’s purpose and tone, Timed reading, Understanding paragraph components, Identifying main ideas in paragraphs, Timed reading, Understanding meaning based on context, Eliminating wrong answers , Identifying viewpoints, Fact or opinion, Timed reading.
Writing Section: Writing section contains 2 tasks . This section assess the candidates understanding performance standards, Precision and meaning, Identifying common errors, Introduction to vocabulary-building. Writing section syllabus includes Writing emails, Email conventions: Greetings, openers, closers, and sign-offs, Tone and register ,Indirect questions, Email format, Paragraphing, Introduction, Synonyms, Avoiding repetition, Time sequencers, Note-taking, Expressing an opinion, Using conjunctions, Supporting details, Transitions, Concluding sentences, Timed writing, Peer feedback: Identifying common errors
Speaking: The purpose of the Speaking test is to determine how effectively you can communicate in English.
Syllabus in this section includes Understanding performance standards, Review of speaking skills, Developing ideas, Introduction to vocabulary-building, Organizing your thoughts, Giving advice, Using WH questions for narratives, Time expressions, Transitions, Prepositions of location, Describing details, Practice: Describing and making predictions, Making predictions from a scene,Choosing, comparing and persuading, Inflection and intonation, Giving effective reasons, Stating an opinion, Weak vs. convincing reasons.

CELPIP General LS has two sections Listening and Speaking.
Test time is about hours and is completed in one sitting for 1 hour 10 minutes.
